We headed South ...
Do you know what these trees are?
We were headed south, about 2 1/2 hours, from LA. It would seem much further, as we left the urban landscapes of the city and the scenery changed from flat to undulating waves of dry earth.
We stopped at a modern oasis on the way that was like a giant suburban shopping complex in the middle of nowhere just off the highway. Refreshed with new breath mints, we gathered ourselves back into the car and continued south following the GPS, as well as paper directions.
It’s a good thing we had written directions because there is virtually no cell service or Wi-Fi connections of any kind out there. I think this is what they call "spotty" as the GPS quickly stopped working and we relied on visual sightings.
We drove through a series of roads up and down, right and left, all the while gaining altitude we rounded a corner ...

Organic Hardneck Garlic
Full flavored Garlic can make you happy!
The change in the weather has affected everything from water falling to sun drying and all of it being out of sync.
While we city folk might consider an air conditioner the farmer has to re-think so much more. For instance, this year Georgie had to pull the garlic bulbs early so they wouldn't rot in the ground because of the extra dry conditions.
What this means to us and to you is smaller, much smaller, bulbs. But don't be fooled into thinking less flavor! I just tested a clove. It peeled easily like usual, and it wasn't sticky at all. When I took a bite, kaboom! Screaming hot flavor!! I am making garlic pasta tonight!
Xian - One of Chester Aaron's (the garlic guru) favorites. Super beautiful bulbs. Light tan wrappers with eggplant purple mottling. A work of art in a garlicky package. Plump cloves that are great for all-purpose cooking, for sauteing and for stir-fry. Sharp hot raw. Hardneck turban type.
Asian Tempest - Big, vertically striped purple bulbs. Fat cloves, often only four or five per bulb. It is super, super hot when eaten raw with a spicy garlic flavor roasted. An Asiatic hardneck type from North Korea.
Spanish Roja - Known for its true garlic flavor, Spanish Roja is one of our favorite garlics. Warm Rocambole and very inviting and easy to peel.
Purple Glazier - Originally from the Republic of Georgia, Purple Glazier is a purple stripe with lasting flavor, but not too hot.
Purple Italian - Back this year after a 3 year hiatus! Mellow rocambole that is classic Italian. Can you say, “40 Clove Chicken”? Hardneck Rocambole type.
Georgian Fire - This is our farm favorite garlic. Absolutely stunning big bulbs with the classic porcelain sheen. These are the beauty queens of the garlic world. Featuring large, cloves, about 6 to 8 per bulb, they are pleasantly hot raw, an excellent "salsa warmer" garlic. We find it to be the best flavored roasted garlic we grow. Creamy like butter with a rich "garlicky" flavor. (we know that it seems stupid to describe garlic as "garlicky" but how often have you had a roasted garlic that tasted like nothing?). We love to roast this one whole, or to cut the huge cloves in half and toss with roasted potatoes or other veggies. Porcelain hardneck type.

We love it so much that we want you to try it now! So this week we are offering this Gold Award Medal winner @ $15.90!
It's exciting to find an oil that as soon as you pop-the-top you know it has something special that makes it different than everyone else.
Like so many Spanish oils, this one has an ever glowing phosphorescent green color.
To the nose it smells like olives, like all oil should. The first taste, a gentle taste, you can taste the olives. A second big swig and the olive oil zips by and the throat comes alive with a nice, spiky burn. You can take an oil like this and toss your favorite pasta and have a perfect meal!
