Specialty Candy from Pécou
This is how you want all candy to be made!
Tasting notes about olive oil are easy. With lots of vibrancy, you can swirl and taste or find a use for olive oil and describe it.
On the other hand, candy ... well it’s pretty difficult. It’s sweet and, uh, sweet. So here I go. Simple to say, but everything I have ever had from Maison Pécou has been stupendous. Since 1880 they have been making magical, whimsical and just plain candies & chocolates. Not just for eating, these candies are spectacular ways to adorn and finish a cupcake!
Black & Green Olives are the fabulous imposter. They look like olives and taste like Wow! Roll one in over the bottom lip and close in. The first bite is chocolate and is quickly followed with a crunch of praline dead center. It’s good! Hold back from following quickly with another, and you can enjoy the subtle sugary center with the chocolate exterior.
Liquicroc Caramel Toffy is a sugar coated chocolate (cool!) with a liquid toffee inside! And even though you know the center is “loose” when you bite in, the reward is better than you can possibly imagine! There is lots of crunch, (sugar shell?) with the toffee center swirling in around the chocolate to make an entertaining bite that is, well, sophisticated! You will spend some time enjoying it all! One satisfies, two is better!
Dark and Milk Chocolate coated Meringue are like little oddly shaped balls of chocolate with crunchy meringue “bite”. The Dark and Milk are distinctly different, no confusing the two when your eyes are closed. The dark has an edge of “alcohol” on the tongue (no there isn’t any alcohol) and the milk is creamy feeling. They are pop-in-your mouth easy to eat.
River Stones look like they really are the stones from Rialto Beach! Gorgeous looking like they are always wet, each one is a surprise. Sugar coated exteriors cover the sugar that covers the almonds, marzipans, apricot, a really unusual treat. If you think they will be soft gooey rocks of joy you would be very wrong. These are firm candies that have layers of tastes!
Sugar coated Almonds are the ones I look forward to most! Not to be confused with your run-of-the-mill “Jordan” almonds, Pécou sugar coats these special Italian almonds to seal in the crispness before adding the exterior of sugar. It is this attention to quality and detail that makes these the very best they can be.

Potent little bulbs bursting with flavor!
Hardneck Purple Glazer Organic Garlic!
Don't let this year's diminutive size dissuade you from eating these little firehouse cloves! The earth has been making changes to the weather and it has affected the crops everywhere. A little too wet and a little too dry makes it necessary to harvest earlier than ever. For garlic it means getting out of the ground early. The "seed" stock we normally see is going back into the ground for next year. But when it comes to taste, these little babies are packed with flavor! Punchy, potent, powerful, perfect, this garlic is the bomb!

Olio Tornatore!
This oil envelopes you when you dip in.
Dip your tongue into a big soup spoonful of Olio Tornatore and it will be enveloped in a cloudy mist of oil that lightly touches your sensory system. It's enticing and compelling for you to proceed and move the oil by the mouthful into the front of your cavity.
The result feels as if the cloud has been carried by your tongue deliciously and the full feel of the oil and the olive appears. Swallow and then there is a tickle to a cough. Quite pleasant, actually and thankfully not an overwhelming fit of hacking.
To the eye it's a light yellow green color, not unexpected given that almost all the olive oil's across-the-board have been lighter in color for the last two years.
The first taste hints of notes of banana buttery with a light olive richness to finish. If you look hard you will find a hint of bitterness at the back edges of the tongue. This is a wonderful oil. Perfect for simple pasta or complex mixes, this oil can both shine and be supportive to any dish!
When I first tasted this oil I was wowed and was instantly reminded of Sicily. Complex with a lightness of being!
500 to 1000 meters above the Mediterranean Sea the Family Tornatore has been farming for over a century. These deep roots in their vineyards set in the ash of the Volcano Etna have produced award winning wines. And now we have their very special family oil. Enjoy!

The fall is here and in the north the temps are dipping! Time to make hot chocolate and chocolate sauce to dip chips in.

Ok, so this is a year round, use it everyday, vinegar because it is so versatile. For some reason in the fall this Apple Cider Vinegar seems more perfect!
