Michael Natkin is best known by his followers for his
blog, Herbavoracious, and his cookbook of the same name. And, in certain circles, he is the artistic programmer who made the T-Rex stomach move in the first Jurassic Park. And, when it comes to recipes, this former Chef applies his unique mix of skills to create some of the best tasting, easy to make dishes! This Pasta ala Carbonara recipe with a twist of using Mama Lil's Peppers in place of the usual pancetta makes for a wonderful twist.

1) Mama Lils Fabulous Peppa's Positively Piquant Pickled Pepper Products
Mama Lil's makes fabulous Hungarian pepper products. They are the secret ingredient in many sandwich shops throughout the Northwest. Add them to a dip, a pizza, a sandwich, and your next Pasta ala Carbonara.

2) Bucatini Pasta Italian Bucatini - the hollow pasta
Bucatini pasta is thicker than spaghetti and the center of each long strand is hollow - think of a drinking straw. Sapori di Napoli bucatini is thicker than the average store-bought version, and superior ingredients and traditional production methods give it exceptional flavor and texture. Its drinking-straw shape allows sauces not just to coat the pasta, but to get all the way inside the tubes...the better to maximize the melding of pasta and sauce!

3) Pickled Green Beans Pickled Green Beans
They crunch when you munch. Hard to resist. You pull one out, and without a doubt, it's a treat that can't be beat! Now we show it on a sandwich, in a salad, or on a plate as a cool side. But really, we have eaten every last one of the first sample jar just plain. They must be good for you and healthy, too? 'Cause we crave them soooo! Though it's a silent jar, every time I open it, there magically seems to be hands reaching in to have "just one"!

4) Boat Street Pickled Cherries Pickled Cherries
Not just cherries in a pickle, these little orbs are a delight to the mouth all alone. Proof you say? Well, when they go perfectly with fowl (duck, chicken, goose) or (ice) cream alike, you know it's a well blended, well crafted treat. This is the year of ingredients that are Agro Dolce and that go well with savory or sweet and this is one of the great ones. A spoon works just as well.

5) Whiskey Barrel Pickles Pickles born In Whiskey
From the snap of the jar to the snap of the first bite, these pickles are the cat's meow of pickles. From the whiskey barrel and its tea bags, these have wonderful flavor and taste. And, it's more than just all the right ingredients (though that really helps) it's knowing when to bottle them up to keep the flavor and have a crunch that is worth the munch.

6) french prunes Nature's Amazing Candy
Prunes from Agen are very special, and proof that not all prunes are created equally! They conjure up a lot of bad stigma (unless you're older, and even then…). It’s almost as if you're caught eating prunes people assume that you're superior to them; as if you're stuck up. But it’s not true! People who eat prunes are good, everyday people, just like you! Pruneaux d’Agen (that’s French, "for the very best.") are not the shriveled up, dried up, tough skinned plums you envision. No, these prunes are nature's finest candy; naturally sweet, easy to chew and, of course, easy to digest!

7) Berkshire Ham Time to plan for Easter is now
Depending on where you are, Easter is just 20 days away. Whether you celebrate with Colomba, Smoked Ham or a Colomba Ham sandwich, Easter is a great time to get together for a classic meal. And this smoked ham is wonderful. We have one reserved for ourselves, so we can experiment and taste test of course. Extremely limited supply.

8) Colomba Sorrento Lemon Colomba Sorrento Lemon
Shaped like a dove this is always the favorite Easter Cake. And just like its winter cousin, Sorrento Lemon Panettone, Colomba starts with an 80 year old yeast (think sourdough bread) that brings a unique personality and taste like no other. Imagine how wonderful it would be to have a morning of bread on Sunday whilst you watch the world go by.
