In our house we have food everywhere. Piles of it mostly contained to the kitchen and the dining room and sometimes it expands up the backstairs to my office.
No we're not food hoarders, though there's some argument that maybe we are. For us it’s all about sampling and resampling foods, constantly.
Sampling sounds like fun and most of the time it is. Though sometimes it's a chore. For instance, tasting seven different olive oils, 1/8 of a cup each all at one time, all in one sitting does get a little taxing.
It's relaxing but not in a pleasant way.
A friend has been asking me for a case of wild Marionberry Fruit Spread which he loves, but he lives to close, sees me too often and travels too much to order online. So finally I did pick some up and I've been hoarding it at home in the attempt that the next time we see each other I could pass it off to him, collect the cash and everyone would be happy.
When we got together we ended up talking about our clients we are consulting with or about airplanes and forgot about the preserves. Recently I finally remembered to bring him one jar for which he was very grateful. The problem was he couldn't take the whole case at that time.
And this is where it gets a little sticky. Remember all the food stored in our house? Well the foods are generally considered off-limits until I give them the green light to be eaten. You see we often keep things over a week or more to see how they keep, important to know when judging foods.
Well for some reason once a case is opened it seems to be open season on the contents.
And as you can imagine the next thing that happened was jars were disappearing at a high rate of speed as children consumed the Marionberry jelly with wild abandon. So the case is dwindling and my friend is not going to get his jelly and now I have to order more.
We all love this wild Marionberry berry jelly. Remember it's a jelly, so it's smooth, it's sweet and has a great sense of treat. Spring has arrived and when some days feel like summer spreadable jelly just seems to hit the spot just right. Maybe we're lazy or maybe it's the new heat, easy foods seem just about right, right now.

A Berry Named Marion
Circa 1956, George F. Waldo developed a new blackberry named Marion after the county it was extensively tested in. Harvest timing placed it between the Boysen (early) and the Thornless Evergreen (late)- two existing varieties of blackberry. The Marion yielded a superior fruit, was earlier in fruition than the Evergreen, and with a thicker cane was easier to train resulting in the ability to reduce the number of canes, producing more fruit on more branches (and less canes).

Asparagus with Blood Oranges and Leek dressing Recipe
This is a beautiful way to fix asparagus. The contrasting colors will liven up your table and your plate. Last time we made this dish, we added some regular oranges as well -- just to add some vibrant orange color to the mix.
