Summertime is for chocolate lovers
When properly conceived, chocolate is the perfect summertime treat.
We often think of chocolate in the cooler months of the year when it doesn't turn into a sticky gooey mess. In the summertime when your favorite bonbon dissolves all over your hand it's quite distressing.
When temperatures reach triple digits even the iconic M&M turns into a fragile, delicate drip of chocolate.
I remember sitting at the bar at the American Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia wishing for a bar of chocolate. It was so hot that ice was in short supply and there was only one cube allotted per drink.
I was sitting drinking my sorrows away with a lukewarm, watered down orange Fanta, when I noticed an Englishman (that's a man from England) lean over the bar and speak in hushed tones with the bartender.
Words were exchanged and the barkeep moved to the small apartment-sized reefer up high on the shelf, and pulled out the Grail of chocolate. A 3 Musketeers bar & a Cadbury bar! I couldn't contain myself! And as the Englishman walked off, I blurted out "Can I get one of those?" The barkeep looked over at me over the top of his glasses and said, "no".
He went on to explain. “They were highly cherished and the property of the gent who was just here." Desired by many, it was the barkeeps sworn duty to protect them with his life.
It was on this trip that I learned never to travel without chocolate in your bag.
The craving for chocolate, no matter where you are, can happen at any moment. And almost always the craving happens in the middle of the night. Too late to go to the local chocolatier even if you're in Paris, or too early before the shops open in Berlin. It is just best to always have chocolate in hand.
Even in the heat, there are ways to feed your chocolate cravings. We put together a little article that you can use all summer long in the heat. Click here to read

Mustard
Healthy Mustard in many Varieties
Nature's Amazing Healer!
Is there an organism out there who hasn't yet heard of the brilliant health properties of the Acai? You've surely caught the buzz about blue-green algae, or the miraculous life-preserving whortleberry? The claims are pretty breathtaking, and usually elicit a great big "meh" out of most culinary hedonists.
ChefShoppers tend to eat for the joy of it, and we like our food to tell a story, seduce our palates, make a boring Tuesday afternoon feel like a Mediterranean cruise - and help us live forever, too. But, just in case you were wondering, we are talking about a superfood here.
Reintroduce yourself to a culinary grande dame, one of nature's oldest delicacies, and easily the lip-smackingest of the phytonutrient-mighty, the magnificent mustard.
The History of Mustard:
Mustard seeds are native to Europe and Asia, where the plant grows easily. As far back as the 5th century BC, and perhaps even earlier, crushed and moistened mustard seeds were used as a topical curative for chest inflammation, bruising, rashes and joint pain.
It is likely that the method used for making an ointment or paste inspired its use as a spread. When mustard seeds are crushed and mixed with water, a chemical reaction between an enzyme and a sulfur compound occurs and the result is a highly volatile and intensely spicy paste.

Tarragon Mustard from Fallot
The Tarragon has much more punch than the Basil; a sharp hit of mustard come first, with the nose opening tang that follows. The flavoring definitely changes how the mustard acts and reacts with the food you pair it with. The green color is very appealing on the “plate”.

Grilled Mustard Chicken w/ Fresh Corn Polenta Recipe
If you love the taste of onion and mustard, then this is the grilled chicken for you. Easy to do, and so tasty.
The creamy polenta creates a nice, creamy bed to the chicken, and a wonderful way to both use up left-over corn-on-the-cob, and soak up the wonderfully mustardy juices of the chicken. If you use already cooked corn-on-the-cob, add the corn about 1 minute before the polenta is done.

We made this quick dressing to go with our ham on Easter. It was a big hit. Also great on mashed or roasted potatoes.
