Wedding Black Forest Alsatian German Cake Recipe

A recipe from the Black Forest

Wedding Reception Pasta Salad Just a bit ago we went to Germany to the Black Forest Region to eat food. And to go to a wedding, too. The food was fabulous! All of the food that the "family" had catered was great! And the food that the family made was the best! What an incredible treat.

Local Fruit from Baden Baden Germany Staying in Baden Baden was a treat and I can't stress enough that this place has the right mix of small town, tourist stuff, culture and is incredibly relaxing. With the French border so close, the food is cross cultural, the best of both worlds!

Rita's Blueberry German Alsatian Cake Recipe Absolutely, the most memorable bite we had was the groom's Mom's cake. Rita's Alsatian Cake is a blueberry delight and treat. Now, no guarantees that if you make it will be the same when you take into account the difference in water, flour, and eggs. Your results could be different. So far, though, we have had wonderful success!

* India Tree Powdered Fondant Sugar Powdered Fondant & Icing Sugar

Twice as fine as regular powdered sugar, it is designated XX (as opposed to supermarket X). Your final product will be unbelievably smooth, and very, very, glossy. Makes remarkable royal icing and fondant fillings for candy.

* Yuzu Tamari Gluten free Soy Sauce Yuzu Tamari - Soy Sauce with Yuzu

Something so incredible you won’t believe it.

Yuzu is a funny, uneven skinned fruit with all the goods and all the characteristics of a tart, sour citrus, with the spirit and the spritz of a mandarin orange.

Soy Sauce, good soy sauce, has just a few ingredients, uses natural fermentation, specific yeasts, and takes at least a year to make.

When you combine these two delicious flavor exciters you get this amazing complex, intricate, and smooth tingly sip!

* Villa Jerada Harissa from a family recipe Family recipe - Moroccan Harissa!

Fresh-made-to-order. This is Mehdi's family recipe from Casablanca. Smooth and textural, it's just right! Use on everything!

Harissa is not one of those condiments that has only one authentic recipe. In fact, from town to town, region to region, it can vary from a little to a lot. From texture to ingredients, and from how hot or not so much. Of all the ones we have tried this is the very best!

Here, in this jar, is Mehdi's mom's recipe. Authentic to his family, Mehdi strived to recreate Harissa as if it was made at home in his kitchen growing up.

* Villa Jerarda Chermoula Chermoula!

Alone or mixed with Harissa this makes one tasty treat!

Holy Toledo Ohio! Though there is not a lick of meat in here, the instant memories evoked are every great smoked, grilled or BBQ protein you have ever had! What a masterpiece of delicious flavor!

And as your flavor mind comes up with a zillion ideas of what to do with it, your confidence soars and you feel perfectly in control of your next masterpiece!

To the nose it reminds me of an olive tapenade with a twitch of tomato and a myriad of spices including cumin.

And to the mouth, wow, it is not what you expect. The spices mix together, and to your palate the cumin and the paprika stand up. On the outside of the inner walls of your mouth is the garlic. With a smoothness of a delicious sauce there is the preserved lemon that is just right, providing a little chew. Complexity revolves in your mouth, but the finish is complete & simple!

* ChefShop Cocoa Powder with Vanilla Summertime Cocoa Powder!

Cocoa Powder is a wonderful summertime grilling friend. Make a molé, add to your BBQ sauce, add it to a rub and you have a twist worth talking about!

This dark, unsweetened cocoa powder is in a class unto itself. They have removed less fat from our cocoa (22-24% fat content), which results in a more intense and immediate chocolate flavor. This wonderful cocoa is Dutch processed and has a touch of ground vanilla bean. Our regulars know what a great cocoa this is!

* Slitti Chocolate Nocciolata Chocolate Creamy Hazelnut Sauce!

Beyond spoon-worthy, this favorite chocolate and hazelnut cream spread is so good, all you need is a spoon to consume it. If you have any left, you can also use it for a topping in luscious desserts.

In 1969, Luciano Slitti opened Caffe Slitti, a coffee roasting shop on a provincial highway outside the village of Monsummano Terme, with his son Daniele taking care of the roasting. Monsummano Terme lies in the north of Tuscany between Lucca and Pistoia, not far from Florence. Their obvious mastery of the art of buying, blending and roasting beans has developed quite a following for the roasting house.

* Lumachine pasta Sapori di Napoli Pasta for Summer

Sometimes a compact pasta (not a long one) works best when making a cold salad. And often we make food ahead for a picnic or when bringing a dish to a garden party. A small, robust hearty pasta holds together better and stands up to, well, sitting and waiting.

We like the bite, the thickness and the shape. Think robust sauce and you have a great meal!

* Sweet Washington cherries The Cherry Report for 2017

As expected the Early Robins cherries shipped first. Later than expected and later than the last couple of years. They were giant, (9 row and larger - smaller number is bigger) as usual, firm, crisp, with a near perfect crunch. The stems were green and no splitting. The sweetest of all the cherries. With the least amount of "acid" or "sharpness" of all the cherries for the year. If the sharp taste of a cherry doesn't like you (or you don't like it back) then this might be the cherry for you. The favorite this year for the family.

Next up, and out of order this year were the Bings. A good size for red cherries (9.5 row and larger), always packed full of "cherry" flavor, perhaps the most recognizable cherry flavor, they did not disappoint this year. Full of punch, cherry lovers rejoice when they get their Bings!

Ahhh, the Rainiers. The light skinned cherry that everyone knows by name. Great size at (9 row and larger), the stems where near perfect. With more cherry flavor and a bit more acid than the Early Robins, they just sing a wonderful combination of sweetness and the touch of cherry you want. This is the reason why they are the favorite of so many.

The big Lapins (8.5 row and larger) were big, bold and beautiful this year! Virtually perfect, so many were so big they could fill your mouth or even require a couple of bites! Firm, crisp and meaty, the crunch and the flavor was so spot on. Softer than the bings, more than the Early Robins and not as tart as the sweethearts. A bigger cherry is just juicier!

Next up are the sweethearts. Get ready to bake a pie!

If there were only two cherries in my life it would be the Early Robin and the Lapin!

Sweethearts - 5 Pounds - Currently estimated to ship Tuesday or Wednesday.

* Rice Bran Oil Rice Bran Oil

This incredibly easy-to-use oil, plays well with others (oils that is), ounce-for-ounce, perhaps the best for you, a value that keeps-like-forever oil! It for sure is one of those ingredients you don't want to run out of!

Delicate, almost flavorless, rice bran oil just may be the world's healthiest edible oil. Rice bran oil comes from the most nutritious part of the rice grain, loaded with monounsaturated fats & polyunsaturated fats, as well as vitamin E. These are the good fats that help your body lose weight.
