Organic Big Island Bees Hawiian Honey

Ohi'a Lehua Blossom Honey
Soak up the sun and live where it's fun!

Where the warm waters fill the space with moist tranquil air. Where the air moves across the breathtaking natural beauty filling up with fresh, floral energy. The energy smells full of pollen and sweetness. The sweetness is abuzz, with, well, buzzing.

The Big Island of Hawaii is still growing and this is the home to some of the world's most active beehives. Where the bees live year round on honey of their own creation, as they move from one floral crop to the next.

These are also some of the nicest bees anywhere in the world. And I mean nice. Garnett describe them as patient, nice bees. How does it happen? He picks the queens that run the hives, by choosing the ones who aren't ornery. If the leader is nice, the other bees are nice too.

Or perhaps, it is the environment that makes them nice. Both the honey and the bees. I can tell you that this honey is some of the finest we have ever had. Each variety has its own distinct flavor, yet what they share in common is a peaceful feeling of sweet tranquility. The most versatile honey on the planet, easy to spread, easy to scoop and measure, without the pouring sticky mess. We love it in tea or on toast! With a unique flavor and not overpowering makes this an ingredient and a everyday everywhere natural sweetener!

We love this honey and the big jar is not only (per ounce) just 2/3 of the cost of the small jar, it takes it from a jar of treasure to a jar of pleasure. Eat liberally and enjoy!

And don't miss Whendi's Lehua Ohia with Ceylon Cinnamon. Using the same local cinnamon that we carry from a neighbor of theirs, creates a flavor of tropical blossom combination.

Madras Curry Powder from Sun Brand Merwanjee Poonjiajee & Sons Private LTD

Established 1876

Sun Brand Madras Curry Powder's tin encases a recipe that has been handed down generation to generation, maintaining the quality that the two founders, Merwanjee and Poonjiajee, created 142 years ago.

Madras Curry is like many spice mixtures, there are many variations of the ingredients and proportions. Madras, (or Madrasapattinam) India, now called Chennai, in Tamil Nadu, India, is on the Coromandel Coast and the second largest port in India. Sun Brand Madras Curry was one of the first curries to be exported.

We carry this brand because we have many curry lovers who tell us it is the best that you can find out there. (And just this week a visiting Indian said it's the brand she uses at home.) You, of course can make your own ... but we like the very fine powder and the ease of having it in our Essential Pantry. The tin is old school, too and worth having.

Ceylon Cinnamon Bark Organic from Hawaii Just Harvested Ceylon Cinnamon

From the Big Island!

Open the bag, put your schnoz inside and take a big whiff...ooh-la-la to quote Grace Potter. This is what you expect, this is what you want, this is and I mean, IS, cinnamon.

Look in the bag and you'll see tree bark! Break a little loose, pop-it-in-your-mouth and in a second or two the cinnamon tingles your tongue and the flavor imparts leaving a good memory.

Freshly cut from a small stand of trees in Hawaii, when it comes in like this we jump for joy as it reminds us why we chose it in the first place. The man who planted the trees to harvest chose Ceylon for its good health properties, its chemical properties and also for its “taste”.

This Ceylon cinnamon is grown on a certified organic farm on the Big Island of Hawaii. The trees grow 4-5 years before harvesting (most trees are harvested after 2-3 years). Not only does waiting increase their yield, but they feel that the cinnamon then has a stronger flavor and has a little more kick to it.

Top your ice cream, top your hot chocolate, (hot drinks cool you in the summer) sprinkle your peaches and your grilled chicken, get the flavor, get the health, give your summer dish a good bark!

Turmeric Ground tur•mer•ic

Tur•mer•ic is one amazing aromatic perennial herb of the Zingiberaceae or ginger family. This tuberous rhizome (root) is a flowering that plant grows in tropical locales, it is most often ground fresh like wasabi, or boiled, dried, and ground to make a powder.

Once upon a time it was called Indian Saffron (in fact it is still used to dye impostor saffron) for its deep orange color. It is also known for its powerful health benefits that Indian Ayurvedic medicine and Chinese medicine have been using for 4000 years to reduce inflammation, help with toothaches, and jaundice. Perhaps the true route to its success is how it helps with flatulence and digestive issues.

Like a high-quality fresh olive oil, turmeric is showing that it might also be a fighter of Alzheimer's and diabetes. (Caution for diabetics as it can thin blood, always ask your doctor.)

Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and it is curcumin that is believed to destroy mutated cells associated with prostate, breast, and colon cancers.

But it’s not just these reasons to have turmeric in your cupboard. It should be in your food for its palette enhancing pleasing bold color. And its not just palette pleasing it is also palate perfect for your lentils, sprinkle on veggies, or use to brighten your eggs up. Simply add it to your favorite dishes like Moroccan Fried Rice or Singapore noodles.

It seems that turmeric is a good “preventive” food, enhancing dishes and in turn your body!

"I have been using this exclusively for years now. I have a 'secret' brownie recipe that I make with this cocoa, syrup made from the cocoa and only the best ingredients. Everyone goes ga-ga over them. Syrup - so easy to make - anything that calls for cocoa I use this. Sometimes I mix just a touch into my coffee for a treat. If you have not tried this yet you need to. You WILL NOT be disappointed!!!"

Laconiko Greek Olive Oil Laconiko Greek Olive Oil

Laconiko has a strong color of green and yellow compared to most of the year’s pressing. When sipped it has a fruity banana start and then dissipates quickly to the back of your mouth. What starts as a subtle tickle turns into a nice burn that creates the cough.

When taken in a mouthful, swirled around before swallowing, not only is the olive present but it feels like the leaves of the olive tree are there as well. What fun!

Many customers have been pining for a good quality Greek oil. But, it has been surprisingly difficult to find an olive oil that has the characteristics we look for, and that’s reliable in delivery. Until now!
