Stocking Stuffer ideas:
Earliest written history has the first mention of stockings as a “wrapping” for gifts. It is unclear if the stocking came in pairs made of Wooly Mammoth hair or not, and some confusion was set in motion as the size of said stocking was much larger than man’s basic foot. They say optimism for the New Year was the reason.
This perfectly preserved stocking, with the name “Lucy” scratched in, was found with most of the contents easily identifiable, including the fruitcake.
Fast forward to today, after endless commercials this year suggesting excessive gift giving (too many big new cars to name one) and giant Balsam trees required just to span the plethora of gifts, maybe we should revert back in time to filling a comfortable, albeit larger than life stocking, with useful, taste good, satisfying holiday “umami”.
The key to a successful stuffer is to keep in mind the recipient and how and what they enjoy when it comes to food. We use the term “agrodolce” sour-sweet, as an all-important determiner of treats that will bring a smile to your loved ones. Treat does not just mean sweet, but in fact means joyous consumption that is completely digestible.
What we have here below, are great gifts, great food, timely arrivals, and things to make you smile like you're at the end of a Hallmark movie!

It's the Jam
Hawkshead Raspberry and Vanilla Jam!
I wasn't quite sure what to expect. But I dove in (with my spoon that is) right from the pop of the opening of the jar. And I was rewarded instantly! It is heavenly! Yes it's just jam, but it is so much more. The raspberry flavor is the backdrop for the very wonderful vanilla cloud that comes with every spoonful!
Now I know it is not just for eating (though I could eat the jar like it was dinner) so I gave it a real world test with my morning oatmeal and I can tell you it was divine!

Les Ruchers De Bourgogne
Honey Nonnettes!
Like a small round cake, slightly larger than a mouthful with a center of jam, it is not the jam that's "featured", it is in fact the bread itself. It is hard to explain how these cakes taste. The outside smells like a gingerbread and when you take the first bite the honey sugar on the outside crinkles in your mouth. It's dry with honey moisture. Give wisely to the Francophile in your life. (Which just might be yourself.)

Tuscan Olio Nuovo!
Fattoria Di Petroio Olio Nuovo is here! It's an oil that has so much personality it has to grow on you! And when it does, it is hard to live without! To the nose it sends tingles and twitches! To the eye it looks like a nice yellow and then as it settles into the spoon a nice olive green settles in. Buttery light to the lips, a wonderful bitter wave across the tongue (no the edges!) and a tickle to the center back of the throat along with at least two "coughs"! The flavor at the tip of the tongue rolls just right! Light and fluffy with shape and fun!

Olio Novello from Sicily
At the very top it is gentle and soft with a vapor like buttery feel as it passes across the lips and, when it hits the tongue, there are hints of artichoke and an unidentifiable fruit. With a tiny bit of a kick, it is a kick that nonetheless rises in the back of the throat and departs relatively calmly. To the top of the tongue there is clearly a distinct olive flavor. The buttery vapor disappears quickly leaving a tiny bit of bitterness along the edges and a burn that starts mid-throat and swells before dissipating and disappearing. It does leave a tingling peppery sensation in the back of the mouth, across the tongue and into the throat. Ultimately, it is quite pleasant.

How to Eat a Cherry
Place the nonpareils (the little bumps of chocolate) on the tip of your tongue and draw your tongue into your mouth, pulling the whole cherry all the way in, close your lips and enjoy for a moment. Then bite down and experience the flow of the armagnac as it mixes perfectly with the cherry and chocolate. You might reach joy, happiness, pleasure, ecstasy, euphoria, Pure Bliss! All from a little chocolate. Eye closing greatness!

Creams
Chocolate and mint have been a classic marriage since 1674 when a fashionable London cafe invented the combination. These wonderful confections are slim rounds enrobed in dark chocolate with creamy peppermint centers. And not just any peppermint, either.
These mints are made with traditional Black Mitcham peppermint - for centuries, the true flavor of England's famed mint. This mint's particular flavor is soft and lingering, with a cool, intense flavor. It is better than you can imagine a mint patty should be.

Black Garlic Pickle is Back!!!
A pickle like you have never ever had!
It just might be the best combination of food words for the year.
Black Garlic and pickle. Pickle as in adding to the lifespan of foods thru good bacterial growth and keeping at bay the bad.
To the nose you get the whiff of vinegar and tinges of spices.
To the mouth?!! It is a wondrous creation of flavors that run thru your taste buds leaving a fabulous tingly ring around your mouth.
The flavors are a wild range of black garlic and turmeric, cumin, ginger and the tickle of chili! It just comes together so nicely. If you taste just the “sauce” without the dates (which are very smooth and fall apart) it conjures up visions of happy sandwiches, perfect steaks and cheese.
Woowee! What a fabulous taste! A 3-Star Great Taste Award Winner.

This Week's Recipes |
Cranberry Cheesecake Recipe
This time consuming, therapeutic, recipe is one of my all time favorites. Easy to make, (after you make it a couple of times), each segment takes time. Stirring, using an electric mixer and even artistic knife skills are involved. The result is grand! And, since everyone likes cheesecake, they will not only be impressed, they will be filled with the joy of cheesecake.
Panettone French Toast Recipe
Panettone, the wonderful butter-rich Italian Christmas Bread, is very often consumed straight without leaving a crumb. But should you find yourself with the chance half loaf left, this recipe is a perfect holiday breakfast favorite.
Ever since we discovered the divine Sorrento Lemon Panettone from Albertengo, it’s been our favorite for this recipe. But any of the wonderful panettone will work great. This recipe is so divine you’ll want to buy two panettone just to make sure you have enough!
Fennel and Zucchini Soup Recipe
Chef Lauren Feldman is obsessed with fennel -- and I guess it has rubbed off. Although Fennel Pollen has been one of my favorite ingredients for years, I have grown to appreciate the fennel bulb and, now, fennel seeds. Enjoy!
