Giving and sharing the Gift of food is the best!
Thank you to you all!
As the weather changes across the globe our food cycles are under high pressure to deal with the increased sun exposure and changing water tables. Over the past few years we have seen some of our favorite foods falter, stumble and a few fall.
It breaks our hearts to see our friends under so much stress, even though we know they will ultimately survive.
We move forward every year and optimistically continue the fight to keep homegrown & handmade foods alive, to support small food production as a part of the bigger grocery landscape, and to keep at bay the orchestrated, science driven, chemically created taste of food and mass industrialization.
The past year we tasted some fabulous new foods and met some wonderful producers who rose to the top of our list! And we expect to have great finds in 2019 to be just as spectacular!
Thank you to you all for reading and eating this year! We wish you a merry merry and a happy happy this holiday and next year!

The Pastry Crunch
The super secret crunch!
As Tina says, (Food & Wine Magazine Food Editor for almost 40 years),
"Add these buttery, toasty-sweet shards to ganache, frostings and truffles for a super crunch."
Called for in classic French recipes, these are a common ingredient when making Praline Feuillete or filling for Praline. These are awesome to have around if you bake anything. From a mix to mixing your own. And even if you don't bake you can eat happily by the handful!

Rice Bran Oil
We love this oil! The perfect frying, hot pan oil! High-smoke point is perfect for frying Chicken or keeping vegetables happy in the oven. Imparting virtually no flavor it mixes well with other oils to help keep costs down. And I love the way when you fry a steak in a little more than normal the oil just falls off and doesn't cling to the meat!

Marcona Almonds from Spain
Marcona almonds from Spain are prized the world over - some even say Marcona almonds are the finest in the world. Almost round and very flat, Marcona almonds look different from garden-variety almonds, and they have a richer, more intensely nutty flavor. After many options we settled on these Almonds in sunflower oil. Why? Because all the other oils changed the flavor and would go bad too quickly.

Moroccan Saffron
Flown in from Casablanca as needed, this just may be the freshest way to buy saffron online. Organically grown this saffron is not certified organic. This is the most effervescent saffron I have smelled.
According to Greek mythology, there are a few variations to the story as to the origins of the Crocus flower. It appears that the nymph, Smilax, was involved in a relationship with the mortal, Krokus, who, with a bit of bad luck, was turned into the flower that produces Saffron.
Saffron is harvested from the fall-flowering plant, Crocus sativus, which is a member of the Iris family. It is native to Asia Minor, where it has been cultivated for thousands and thousands of years for its medicinal cures and its distinctive flavor attributes in foods.

Bonito Flakes!
Thin shavings of bonito, a fish similar to tuna, are an essential ingredient in Japanese cuisine. These dried bonito flakes are often combined with kombu seaweed to make dashi, the base stock for many Japanese soups and broths. But that's just the beginning.
In addition to its many uses in traditional Japanese cooking, we think bonito is a great addition to any pantry. It's a versatile, easy-to-use seasoning that adds a slightly smoky flavor to all sorts of salads, dips and dressings. It's also terrific for enhancing steamed or sautéed vegetables, with or without tofu. And another discovery...if you like bonito, keep it out of reach of your gourmet-inclined cat! They can't seem to get enough of the stuff.
We have 2 grades available.

Feuilletine Flakes Hazelnut Creme Cookie Recipe
Eating Feuilletine Flakes by the handful is like the best cookie ever, but not quite. By adding luxurious hazelnut creme from Andrea Slitti and a bunch of fabulous chocolate you get a cookie that has just about everything you might want, since it is like a great candy bar!
Roasted Carrots with Cocoa & Coriander Recipe
Roasting carrots is very easy -- and pretty quick. I like to leave the carrots whole -- especially if they are freshly picked from my garden and still thinnish and tender. With bigger carrots, peeling them and slicing them on the diagonal might work better.
Tim's Basic Red Sauce Recipe
It's the basic tomato sauce with our version of "add ons".
