Camping food
Making fabulous meals over the fire!
We were late! A few last minute fires to extinguish put us behind, but my son and I were finally on our way, racing to catch the
10:40 ferry.
We turned onto the docks and drove straight on the ferry. One of the last to drive on, we breathed a sigh of relief. We were headed to go camping on the
Olympic Peninsula, to our favorite spot.
And getting on this ferry had an extra treat, on board was
Victor Hazan! We stood on the car deck chatting. As the Seattle city skyline fell away in the wake of the ferry, we turned to face the Olympic Mountains. We bid farewell and went our separate ways.
Camping to many means boil water and eat freeze dried food. To us it means blueberry banana pancakes with bacon, eggs and blueberry sausage in the mornings, and New York steak, fennel pollen chicken, corn on the cob, potatoes with veggies (this year carrots) and lots of fruit for dinner.
And we like to mix it up year to year. This year we brought two new favorites and one old one.
Amalou and Chermoula were the new.
Amalou simply placed on a banana was delicious and exactly what old muscles needed. We added the
Chermoula to the potatoes, carrots and onions to spice it up, just the right amount to make it special.
And this year, we brought an old friend,
Maui “styled” ribs. Taking from my sons secret stash, it was the perfect food after a long day of hiking through the rain forests and up and down the rocks in the ocean.
Sadly, this was the last of the Ribs we had frozen. The good news is we are getting ready to order the next batch of
Maui-Style Ribs. And more good news, they will ready in time for Labour day.
This is a good time to order your ribs for Labour day, camping, back yard cooking, and even apartment camping.

It's Shipping Time!
The Giant Reeds Are Picking Now!
Peter let us know this past week that he is planning to pick as soon as today! He still expects a very short picking season, perhaps over the next two weeks. Now is the time to get your order in and get in line. We expect that we may have more orders than fruit available, due to the changing weather conditions!

Last year we went and visited with Peter and Bonnie at the farm just before harvest. Here is an excerpt from the story.
We were headed south, about 2 1/2 hours, from LA. It would seem much further, as we left the urban landscapes of the city and as the scenery changed from flat to undulating waves of dry earth. We stopped at a modern oasis on the way that was like a giant suburban shopping complex in the middle of nowhere just off the highway.
Refreshed with new breath mints we gathered ourselves back into the car and continued south following the GPS, as well as paper directions.
It’s a good thing we had written directions because there is virtually no cell service or Wi-Fi connections of any kind out there. I think this is what they call spotty as the GPS quickly stopped working and we relied on visual sightings.
We drove through a series of roads up and down, right and left, all the while gaining altitude we rounded a corner ...
